Fayal takes delivery of new water tender

The Fayal Fire Department took delivery today of its new water tender. The apparatus, which is on a 2018 International chassis, includes a 2,400 gallon tank with pump and roll capabilities. The water tender was built by Custom Fire Apparatus of Osceola, Wisconsin at a price tag of $256,000.

Gilbert home damaged

April 25 – Firefighters from Gilbert, Eveleth, Fayal and Mountain Iron battled a house fire in Gilbert this morning. The fire was reported around 9:40 a.m. in the 200 block of Minnesota Avenue West. No one was injured and the house had moderate fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Hibbing’s Engine 1

Hibbing’s new Engine 1 went into service in April.  The apparatus, built by Rosenbauer of Wyoming, Minnesota, is on a Spartan Metro Star chassis and is powered by a Cummins ISL 8.3, which produces 380 horsepower.  Other features include a Waterous 1500 GPM single stage pump, 1,000 gallon water tank,  and a Foam Pro 2001 Dual Agent foam system. The price tag without equipment was $381,000.  Engine 1 was a 2011 City of Hibbing capital budget expenditure and is the first new engine purchased by the city since 1994.  The new engine replaced a 1972 model engine, which was no longer safe to use.  The purchase also resulted in the moving of a 1982 model to active reserve status.

Eveleth garage extensively damaged

January 26- Eveleth, Fayal and Mountain Iron firefighters battled a garage fire in Eveleth.  The fire was reported around 8:20 a.m. in the 700 block of Clay Street.  The garage was extensively damaged and a car inside was destroyed.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Makinen takes delivery of new tender

The Makinen Fire Department has purchased a new water tender.  The apparatus is powered by a Cummins ISC 350 engine with a 2,000 gallon tank, 500 GPM Waterous pump and a Foam Pro 1600 foam system.  The tender also carries a 2,500 gallon drop tank.  The cost of the apparatus was $227,000.  The tender was manufactured by Toyne, Inc. of Breda, Iowa.
