Mt. Iron Home Destroyed
Firefighters Brave Sub-Zero Temperatures
December 24, 2000 - Mountain Iron firefighters braved sub-zero temperatures and dangerous wind chills to battle a house fire in the city's Southgrove area. The fire was called in at 7:51 a.m. at 56 Fairview Lane. Arriving fire crews found the house already engulfed in flames. Fire Chief Tom Cvar told The Northland Fire Wire that the home was a total loss. He also reported that the fire apparently started in the basement and may have been caused by the furnace. No one was home at the time as the owners were out of state. No injuries were reported.
