Chisholm Firefighters Save Drug Store
June 22 – A fast response to the scene and the use of a thermal imaging camera are being credited with the saving of a drug store in downtown Chisholm. Around 10:15 p.m., Chisholm firefighters were paged out to a report of smoke coming from the basement of Tommy’s Bar at 109 West Lake Street. Firefighters and apparatus were on the scene in just a few minutes and the crews soon discovered that the blaze was in the basement of the adjacent Casey Drug Store at 111 West Lake Street. An interior attack team quickly brought the fire under control and the department’s new thermal imaging camera was used to locate the origin. Chisholm Fire Chief Bob Brown told The Northland Fire Wire that the place was just minutes away from becoming an inferno. "We could have lost this whole business," said Brown. "We got there just in time to prevent a disaster." Damages to the drug store were estimated around $100,000, but amazingly, the business was open the next day. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, according to Brown.
