Chief Brunacini Holds Two Workshops
At Mesabi Range College
Phoenix Fire Chief Alan Brunacini had his audience laughing and learning during two workshops held March 10 and 11 at Mesabi Range College in Virginia. Brunacini, who is known throughout the world as a fire service expert, discussed Fire Department Customer Service and Incident Command. His laid back presentation, mixed in with "war stories", kept the audience motivated and interested in both subjects. "Those who didn’t take in these workshops really missed a lot of good information," said Chisholm Fire Chief Bob Brown. "This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear from one of the best in the fire service profession." Others who took in the workshops also felt the same as Brown. "Brunacini speaks the language of the everyday firefighter," said Fire Wire Editor Peter Makowski. "While he’s a proven expert in his field, he never put himself on a pedestal when he put on his presentations. He is just like one of us, with the same concerns that all of us face in firefighting."
Therese Elverum, director of fire training at Mesabi Range College, said she was very pleased with the workshops. About 80 public safety officials, ranging from firefighters to EMS personnel to law enforcement officials, attended the workshops. "We hope to bring other fire service experts to this area," said Elverum. "The Brunacini workshops showed that these types of offerings can attract a good audience."
