Gunflint Trail Fire Station Destroyed

The Gunflint Trail Fire Department suffered a devastating loss on October 22 when its Fire Station #2 was destroyed by fire. The blaze was reported around 7:00 p.m. The department lost its only ambulance and its newest Type 1 pumper, along with a fire boat and EMS training equipment. Damages were estimated at $350,000. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation, although it appears it started near the ambulance. The department has been able to obtain equipment through a rapid response effort organized by the Minnesota State Fire chiefs’ Association and other public safety groups.
