EVTAC Plant Resumes Operations-Fire Investigation Continuing

The EVTAC taconite plant in Forbes has resumed production, about three weeks after a fire destroyed two of the plant's major conveyor belt systems. The early morning blaze on October 13 caused millions of dollars in damage and resulted in the lay-off of around 60 full-time employees. In addition, several hundred workers were off the job and received wages paid by the company's insurance carrier. The fire was fought by firefighters from McDavitt Township, Clinton Township, and Virginia. An investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing by the Factory Mutual organization. Ironically, the fire occurred just before a new fire protection system was set to go on line. EVTAC officials are still assessing the fire's full impact on the operation
