New Water Tender for Brevator Fire Department
The Brevator Fire Department has taken delivery of a new 2,000 gallon water tender. The tender is on a 2007 Freightliner chassis with a 250 gpm pump, three telescoping dumps and a 250 foot hose reel. The apparatus was manufactured by Midwest Fire Equipment of Luverne, Minnesota. The total cost was $132,500, with most of the funding coming from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

New pumper in McDavitt Township
The McDavitt Fire Department is the proud owner of a Pierce DX Contender pumper. The apparatus, which is on an 2006 International chassis, includes a 1250 gpm single stage Hale pump, 1,000 gallon tank and Hale Logix 2.1 foam system. The pumper was purchased from Clarey's Safety Equipment of Rochester, Minnesota at a price of nearly $148,000. The McDavitt Fire Department covers the United Taconite Fairlane Plant in Forbes.
Makinen's new pumper
The Makinen Fire Department took delivery of a new four wheel drive pumper in May 2006. The apparatus has a 1250 GPM pump, 1,000 gallon tank, and a 2001 FoamPro foam system mounted on an International 7400 chassis. The pumper was built by Custom Fire Apparatus of Osceola, Wisconsin. The total cost was $307,000, with nearly $238,000 coming from a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

Makinen's re-built wildland fire rig
The Makinen Fire Department members really know how to re-build rigs. Under the direction of Fire Chief Mike Skule, the department recently did a major overhaul of the department's wildland fire response unit. The 1986 Chevrolet one ton pick-up originally came from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The truck has a 250-gpm Honda slide in pump and 200 gallon tank, along with a foam system. The pump was funded through a DNR grant, which really helped to move the rebuilding project forward. With a new coat of paint and lettering, the rig looks brand new.

New heavy rescue apparatus in Hibbing
The Hibbing Fire Department has a new heavy rescue rig (Rescue 1). The apparatus, which is stationed at the department's headquarters, was built by Custom Fire Apparatus of Osceola, Wisconsin. Rescue 1 has a 500 GPM pump and 400 gallon water tank mounted on an International Model 7400 chassis, powered by an International DT570 diesel engine. The rig carries a variety of rescue equipment including vehicle extrication tools, rope, water and ice rescue equipment and hazardous materials response equipment. In addition, Rescue 1 carries a cascade air system for on-scene breathing apparatus filling as well as advanced life support equipment. Fire department officials say the apparatus will respond to all vehicle accidents, structure fires, carbon monoxide calls and other rescue alarms. The cost of the new heavy rescue truck was put at $272,000. The rig went into service around Memorial Day.

The Cook Fire Department has taken delivery of a 2006 Rosenbauer General
pumper. The apparatus, which was
put together in Wyoming, Minnesota, includes a Waterous 1250 GPM single stage
pump, 1,000 gallon tank and a Foam Pro 1600 Class A foam system.
The cost of the new pumper was put at $220,000, with around $170,000
coming from a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
